Paving Overlayment Installation Equipment

KC's new patented toggle clamp fills the need for a high quality, powerful, quick acting outside line-up clamp for smaller pipe sizes. These user friendly clamps are not a copy of existing clamps, but are of a new design and employ several innovations and improvements.
KC toggle clamps are of a cast construction utilizing a non brittle alloy of high strength and excellent rigidity. This strength and rigidity allows the clamps to be kept light and yet be more than strong enough to measure up to the rigorous requirements encountered along the right-of-way.
These new clamps employ "full circle" contact on the pipe whereby
the pipe is gripped all along the inner clamp ring surface rather than
on spaced pads. In addition, the clamps are smoothly bored
for a proper fit on the pipe. These features coupled with the very
high clamping force provided by the latching toggle allows accurate and
secure joint alignment without the need for wedging. The rugged and
quick acting latching mechanism is easily adjustable to accommodate minor
variations in pipe diameter.
Another feature of KC's unique toggle clamp are the fingers that protrude
from the sides of the clamp rings. These fingers are designed to
facilitate the alignment of tees and elbows for welding.
Due to the clamp's excellent design and construction, only four cross bars are needed to maintain rigidity and these are located near the hinge and the latch. This feature along with the low profile rings results in greatly improved access to the weld area. The generous weld windows are shown in the picture below.
In summary, KC's new toggle clamps are rugged, versatile, and
light weight. Their modest cost and outstanding performance insure
an excellent value. The table below lists the weights of the toggle
clamps currently available. Additional sizes are under consideration
at this time.

KC. ratchet drive outside line-up clamps have been the quality leader of the pipeline industry for many years. This line of KC clamps are of the screw type and are operated with a reversible ratchet wrench supplied with each clamp. Along with conventional design, these clamps have two features that make them superior to other clamps. First, the inside diameter of the clamp is machined to fit the OD of the pipe being aligned. This machining operation produces a true bore with parallel pad faces, thus allowing each pad to fully contact the pipe surfaces to aid in accurate alignment of the joint. Secondly, KC. clamps are extremely rigid, being constructed of heavy rectangular bar stock rolled the "hard" way; a design which produces maximum rigidity for the weight of the stock being used. This rigidity enables the clamp to resist springing and distortion when clamping out-of-round pipe. These two qualities of accurate bore and high rigidity combine to produce the best possible joint alignment.
The heart of the KC. Ratchet Drive Clamp, the screw, is made of alloy steel and is of sufficient diameter to withstand the stresses imposed by rigorous service.. The screw threads are of acme configuration precision cut for maximum strength and long periods of smooth operation. Clamp screws are protected from dirt contamination by heavy telescoping tubular guards, and grease zerks are provided in the steel nut assemblies to allow lubrication of the screw threads and bearing.
Clamp pads are made of rectangular steel that is laid flat to maximize
pipe contact and minimize the distance between pressure areas. After
the pads are welded in place on the rings, they are bored to proper size
and contour to accurately fit the pipe to be clamped. This feature,
in combination with the clamp's extreme rigidity and strong alloy screw,
results in great clamping pressure. This pressure is evenly applied
to the pipe insuring proper alignment before welding.

We feel that the KC MIG welding torch is the finest in its class. It employs a torch head of patented construction which utilizes a series of ball bearings. These bearings provide a low friction path for the welding wire thus insuring smooth operation. Also, these same ball bearings have allowed the head to be designed utilizing a sharp bend radius and a head angle of 75 degrees. The sharp bend radius results in a compact head allowing better access to tight places. And, the 75 degree head angle has been found to be ideal for maximizing comfort and ease of use. The ball bearing assembly is virtually maintenance free and is contained in an extremely durable stainless steel outer housing.
The G-100 utilizes screw-on copper nozzles that are available in
three sizes to cover almost any application. These nozzles feature
an O-ring seal to prevent air entrainment during operation. All G-100
nozzles exhibit excellent service life and this can be attributed to a
heavier wall thickness than that found on the nozzles made from tubing
stock that are common on torches of lesser quality.
Also available for the G-100 are contact tips in both a round nose and a cut-away or beveled nose configuration. These are supplied in two sizes; one for .030-.035 in. wire and the other for .045 in. wire. The contact tips are held in place with a ferrule lock which provides for tip extension adjustment as well as quick removal and replacement.
The G-100 MIG torch is tough, yet flexible, and is made of materials
tested to withstand temperatures to minus forty degrees F. Adapters
are available to attach the torch to most popular wire feeders.
The entire unit is exceptionally long lasting and fully repairable.

KC Welding and Machine Corp. has been building MIG welding equipment
since 1962. Our G-100 torch, designed primarily for pipeline use
and sold throughout the world for that application, has been finding wider
and wider acceptance in the shop and yard. Unparalleled for compactness,
flexibility, and comfort, the G-100 torch lends itself especially well
to situations involving tight quarters or fatiguing welding conditions.

KC currently offers two models of equipment designed for the application
of paving fabric. The top of the line is the FU-500 which is of a
folding boom configuration. Our most economical model is the BD-400
which requires some assembly on the site before use.

The FU-500 applies the paving fabric to the road surface by means of eight brooms attached to broom channels. The brooms can be adjusted for pressure and road contour by four screw jacks. The two reach arms that support the fabric roll are vertically adjustable so that roll elevation may be varied. Also, these arms are adjustable laterally to accommodate minor variations in roll width. Rolls of different nominal widths can be handled by the employment of a short roll chuck, or for rolls over 13'6'' wide, by use of the optional extender kit. For 6'6'' and narrower fabric widths the unit can be operated in the folded position with the reach arms installed on the ends of the boom center section. This results in a compact, narrow machine configuration which facilitates the laying of this popular narrow width of fabric.
In order to maintain proper fabric pre load during the lay down operation, KC disc type tensioners are utilized. These tensioners feature quick external adjustment to vary the tension imparted to the fabric. They require very little maintenance and are long lasting as well as completely repairable. Tensioner engagement with the core of the fabric roll is achieved by the pivot action of one of the reach arms on which the tensioners are mounted.
The FU-500 is available in a manually operated version, hydraulic operation, or a combination of the two. The manual unit requires no hydraulic or electrical connections with the vehicle on which it is mounted. The outboard booms are lifted and lowered and locked in position by hand. The swinging reach arm is actuated via a hand operated, quick action toggle mechanism. On the hydraulic unit these actions are powered using the hydraulic service provided by the vehicle. If the customer prefers, a mixture of hydraulic and manual operation can be accommodated.
The Model F-500 is a well designed and constructed lay down machine
with exceptional reliability. With its varied adjustable features,
it is a versatile and accurate paving fabric installer. Its modest
cost and great performance, coupled with its quick "ready to go" configuration
, has won it favor among those involved with the installation of paving
fabric.
